Health Care Bill HR 3590 - 219 Yea 209 Nay

There are two more votes left.

Update 7:27pm: This vote, as I understood it, would have put in anti-abortion language into the bill, which surely would have killed it in the Senate.  It was defeated 232 -199.  Now they are doing the final vote on the reconciliation bill.

Update 7:39pm:  House passes Senate Bill and Reconciliation Bill 220 yea  211 nea.

  2. Strange how the decried lack of bi-partisanship comes from a Republican leadership that in the 90s unilaterally declared the 'Contract with America'. Politics is about the exercise of power, only occasionally consensus, in a majority wins system.

Another observation. In the parliamentary system, legislation is passed on party-line vote. If your party has a good majority, it wins. Simplified version of it all, but it demonstrates that there is more than one way to craft a representative democracy.

    Finally, congratulations, America.

  3. Why is it such a great thing? In Hungary, the state always paid for basic and average medical services. It is one of the positive effects of Socialism in Hungary. An other example is that 90% of the people live in their own houses and only 10% rent it.
